Gas Water Heater Pilot Won't Stay On? In this video, I talk about a couple of reasons why your pilot light might go out. Perhaps your heater is leaking and causing the pilot to go out. Maybe the thermocouple moved out of position causing the pilot to go out.

You're going to have to physically look inside the burner box to determine the cause, so I put together a screencast video followed by a bench top demo to help you identify the potential reason your gas water heater pilot won't stay on.

I personally don't think this is a D.I.Y. project because you're messing around with gas which in my opinion should be only handled by a professional technician. But if you feel this is a repair you're going to attempt yourself, I've laid out some guidelines for you to follow.
